»About 1875, however, the use of the broad pen was reintroduced in Germany by F.Soennecken. This man was probably more interested in the manufacture of pens than in the return of broad-pen writing - this revival was to come later through Edward Johnston and Rudolf von Larisch. Nevertheless, Soennecken did make a start in this direction; the alphabet that he devised was called 'Rundschrift'; it was based upon the French ronde, as a comparision will show. Despite the fact that it was not a really good style, it found favor with engrossers, writing-masters, sign-writers, etc. throughout Europe and the United States.«
