Robert Crumb interview in the Guardian
Topic: Comics
Robert Crumb Interview "From 60s hippies to 90s film-makers and 21st-century art galleries, each generation has rediscovered the misanthropic, sex-obsessed cartoonist Robert Crumb. Now it is to happen again: in coming days he will be the subject of two retrospectives, a film season and a new biography. To celebrate, the Guardian this week will publish a selection of new and little-known Crumbs, along with some more familiar works. Simon Hattenstone introduces the series by interviewing him at his home in the south of France."

In Memory of Bill Yoshida, Archie Comics Letterer, 1922 - 2005
Topic: Comics
Bill Yoshida R.I.P. - "...Bill Yoshida, the longtime comic book letterer, passed away last week. He began lettering comics in the late sixties and became the main letterer for Archie Comics around 1980. Occasionally credited as 'Bill Yosh' or 'Saburo Yoshida,' his handiwork had a lot to do with the look and feel of that company's books ever since, appearing on almost every cover and something like 90% of the interior stories, plus the Archie newspaper strip..."

Downloading comics: threat or menace?
Topic: Comics
I read about downloading pirate scans of comic books on Boing Boing 6.Jan.2005. The post was about this Newsarama thread. It says Z-Cult FM is "the largest BitTorrent feed for pirated comics... ZcultFM.com hosts the torrent files that allow people to download comics that other people have scanned in."

»Many bloggers wrote about this, and I like what Laura Gjovaag said in Bloggity-Blog-Blog-Blog: "There are Golden Age stories that are not in print, DC has no plans to ever reprint them, and buying the individual issues would bankrupt me. I have no moral problem downloading those stories, as I will buy any reprint DC puts out and if I ever have the money I'd buy the originals, too. I have serious issues with more modern books, however, and especially with any book that's actually in print."

»Jason St. Claire says "Scanning comics is like crack; it's addictive". Read the article 'Free Comic Book Day 24/7/365: The Scurvy Dogs of Comics Piracy' at comicbookgalaxy.com

»Personally I don't have the time to search for and download comics. I buy some trade paperbacks and I read a few comics online. I prefer comic books printed on paper, and today you can find almost any old comics on eBay. But I guess if I was 15 years old I'd be downloading comics all the time.

»Right now zcultfm.com "are experiencing problems but will be back on Feb.8th.2005."
