The Decline of Fashion Photography

The Decline of Fashion Photography : An argument in pictures. By Karen Lehrman, MSN Slate Magazine, 15.May 2001.
"Fashion photography is in fashion. This 1951 Vogue cover by Irving Penn recently sold for $28,750 at auction. It is indeed brilliant: Penn's masterful use of light, balance, and a spare composition create an understated elegance."

Fighting Words - Paper Bullets
Topic: Design
Fighting Words - About flyers and leaflets by PSYOP the U.S. Army's 4th Psychological Operations Group.

"A graphic designer's daily concerns are relatively simple: create a visual identity for chosen concept, company, or product; make it convincing and, if possible, elegant; deliver it on a deadline that ranges from weeks to several months. But what if your work was meant to protect men and women in your nation's armed forces, and delivering it meant the difference - literally - between life and death? What if your client was your enemy? And what if your deadline was a few short hours, not weeks?"

Purple is the new red
Topic: Education
Some psychologists and teachers say purple ink is less intimidating than red on a corrected school paper. "When it comes to correcting papers and grading tests, purple is emerging as the new red."

"Red's legacy as the color used in correcting papers and marking mistakes goes back to the 1700s, the era of the quill pen. In those days, red ink was used by clerks and accountants to correct ledgers. From there, it found its way into teachers' hands."
